Spring Break

This last week Jeb and I have been at home in Westcliffe for our spring break. We are so blessed to have the wonderful parents that we have, and call the great little community home. Although or break has been bitter sweet.

Saturday= Jeb and I drove to Alamosa so he could talk with the Horse Trainer he wants to work with about the upcoming months.  We spent some time talking about the future and what this next year means for us, and after talking with the trainer, we found out that Jeb will have to find his own housing. So I'm not sure what that means for me next year. which is a bummer, but I know we will figure it out.
Saturday night Karly and I drove down to stay the night with Lacy. We had a great time, we went and got frozen yogurt and played monopoly with Lacy's friend Derek.

Sunday Karly and I went to church with Lacy and she treated us to smoothies and pizza pretzel after.

Monday our pastor and his family tragically lost their 9 year old boy in a gun accident. We are all very happy that Cory is now in Heaven with Jesus, and continue to pray for the Schlabachs

Jeb and I spent Monday afternoon baked some brownie bite and mini cupcakes. I used one of my dads small frosting tips to mess around with some icing.

Tuesday I made some cupcakes for the Schlabach family and guests from out of town to add to the dinner that the Stoltzfus family prepared for them.

 

Thursday Jeb his brother Tyler and I went to Pueblo to pick up a few things see Lacy and two of my good friends from high school Ruby and Mia.

Friday was Cory's funeral. Filled with tears and laughter. Cory was quite a little spark and we all are so thankful he is now in Heaven. This afternoon we are lucky enough to watch my cousin Leanne and Ryans son Mason. We all get quite a kick out of him! Leanne and Ryan are joining us for one of my dad's smoked roasts, with home-made bbq sauce.

I just love being home.

El Bano

NJC is a really nice campus, no to big, not to small, the classrooms are a small which is nice because there are never more than 40 kids in a class, dorms hold less than 150 people, there is plenty of grass around campus for outdoor activities, (we plan to sleep outside in Herbie's "back-yard" after spring break sometime)

But

 the buildings are sortof "Dated".

 I'm no interior designer, or architect,

but it's noticeable.

• The carpet in the Herbie is multi colored, to... "hide the dirt" (horse crap, cow crap, hay, you get the point.)
• Inside each room we have 3 drawers, hanging space, and a cabinet which are all early 70's looking.including a yucky pastel color lament.
• Space heaters keep our rooms semi- warm
• I bet ya that every door and window in Herbie alone has a draft.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining. I requested Herbie Hall both years I have gone to school here, and last year I had to beg.

"Cosmetology people don't stay in Herbie. That's where all the ag kids are."

I would respond, "I know but that's where I want to room."

"Why the heck would you want to live over there?"

Me: "I like country kids"

I went trough quite a few loops to make it in Herbie.

Every year there is a waiting list of students who didn't turn in their housing contracts early enough that want a chance to be in Herbie.

Anyways, One of the funniest things I think about NJC are the bathrooms.

I took the risk of an awkward situation, just to show you.

This one you have to walk in and go around the corner for the stalls. To the right of the picture was a long counter with more mirrors. This is the ladies bathroom in the student event center. So maybe the counter is for getting ready? :)

but, plenty of room to wash your hands and check yourself in multiple mirrors!

Fresh Page

I love ripping off pages from my calendar at the beginning of each month. Its also kindof fun to look at everything that happened in the previous month. Just thought I'd share my entertainment.

5. Things I Loved in February

1.I have a wonderful valentine

2. I got to visit my beautiful friend Shalee and she did a beautiful job on my hair.

3. My Mom and Dad came to visit me at school!

4. It only snowed 1 time the whole month.

5. I have wonderful friends who fix my car for free (or a batch of cookies)

Okay so March wasn't totally clean. But you get the point.

1. Spring Break

2. Two of my cousins are having babies this month.

3.During our spring break Jeb and I are going to Alamosa to try to get some things sorted out for this summer.

4. I'm taking my Cosmetology test later in the month. (hopefully I pass!)

5. Mid-terms are next week, which means this semester is HALF OVER!

6.The annual FFA Oyster Fry and Member Sale is this month

7.It's getting warmer!

8. Another one of my cousins is getting married this month, receptions to celebrate wedding follow in April.

9. 2 months until summer!

10. The girls from my cosmo school and I are going to get pedicures later this month!

11. I got my hair feathers in!!! I'm so excited to start putting feathers in my sisters, cousin { :) } and friends hair!

March is lookin pretty good so far!





New Favorite

Last moth when Jeb and I met his parents and brother in Denver for the Stock Show (Jeb's Birthday) his momma introduced me to my new favorite snack.

Its become an addiction.

Really.

I'm not just meaning a snack that you like to keep around.

We buy two bags at a time, and one never makes it back to the dorm.

and this is usually what happens to the 2nd bag.

 My room-mate Sydney is just as addicted as I am!

But , it has zero trans fat, glutent free, 100% natural,and 130 calories per serving! I think this might be my new favorite for a while!

"Oh Happy Day"

Recently we watched Secretariat on $2.00 movie night at the Fox Five. I loved it, and everyone else did too. The movie theater was filled with familiar faces, from herbie residents, class-mates from my ag classes, and members of the rodeo team. Horses are a pretty popular topic around these parts!

The movie told the story of a Colorado house wife, Mrs. Penny Chenery, and a horse named Secretariat or lovingly named "Big Red". I don't want to go into detail about the movie, in case you already saw it, or plan on watching it soon. (I highly recommend it!)

There are a few bible verses reference in the movie, that I love. Which really sum up most of the movie.

Job 39:19-24

"(19) Do you give the horse his strenght? Do you clothe his neck with a flowing mane? (20) Do you make him leap like a locust, striking terror with his proud snorting? (21) He paws fiercely, rejoicing in his strength, and charges into the fray. (22) He laughs at fear, afraid of nothing; he does not shy away form the sword. (23) The quiver rattles against his side, along with the flashing spear and lance. (24) In frenzied excitement he eats up the ground; he cannot stand still when the trumpet sounds."

Hair-doos

I miss doing hair. I didn't ever think that I would miss it this much, but I do. I get to cut the occasional herbie resident here and there, and my friends and family whenever I go home, but I want to be in a salon.

But, this is not another down in the dumps blog.

Last Thursday I went to Ft. Morgan to visit one of my friends from "cosmo school" and get my hair done!

 

She did a great job! One of my other "cosmo" friends went with me, we all had such a great time chatting, laughing and catching up. Shalee is doing so well in her salon, it makes me very excited to get into my own salon someday!

When Cowboys Get Sick

My cowboy is sick. and miserable.
he...
-lost his voice
-sneezes constantly
-polishes off a new Kleenex box about every 24 hours
-can't sleep
-has a chill 24/7
-is groggy
--grumpy
--sleepy
--and oh so adorable (I can't help it)

On any normal day, he gets up at 6:30 to feed his horses, and then feeds his class horse and clean stalls for his work study job. He then makes some coffee in his room (which really isn't allowed here in our dorms so don't tell! :)) and watches the news until his classes start for the day.
On a lucky day, I get a morning visit from him which means,
   a. waking me up
   b. watchin' me put on the last bit of my makeup and hurry off to class
   c. sitting on the edge of my bed and try to make conversation with me, while I drift in and out of sleep.
And on REALLY LUCKY DAYS, he brings me breakfast!
        

     (back to the main topic of this blog)

For the last week, he has been pretty miserable but still takes care of his horses and goes to all of his classes.

He even managed to take me on our weekly date last night! We went to a cute little back east diner style place, which I'm sad to report did not get rave reviews, but I'm very excited to try something different there, probably next week. :).

Anyways, after dinner he finally agreed to get some night-time medicine so he could maybe get a good quality shut eye. (He went to bed at 8:00 I might add). 

Today right before lunch, he informed me that he still was not feeling a lick better, and earlier that morning (while I was enjoying the fact that I don't have a single class on Thursday, from the most wonderful coziest spot in my dorm room, {MY BED!}) he rode his class horses today and felt the walls spinning. NOT GOOD! He also whispered to me, "I really want to take you to the movies tonight {$2.00 movie night at the Fox Five and Country Strong is FINALLY HERE!!!} so I am going to go sleep the rest of the afternoon."

He is so cute! he has dark circles under his eyes, he can't breathe out of his nose, and his voice is just about gone, and he still is thinking about me, and the movies.

sheesh... I wish he would let me microwave him some chicken noodle soup and hot tea.  I'd walk up to his room with it all on my TV tray, (It doubles as my laptop table) and rub his shoulders for him. He doesn't want anything but sleep and good food (I think he means his mamma's).  So I'll just blog about him :)
